Poi practice!

Our Kapa Haka group have been learning a beginner's poi song, we have been doing well with the words and this week we are going to use poi alongside our singing!

E rere taku poi,                   Fly my poi,
E rere taku poi                    Fly my poi
Ki ruka, ki ruka.                  Upwards, upwards
E rere taku poi,                   Fly my poi,

E rere taku poi                   Fly my poi
Ki raro, ki raro.                   Downwards, downwards
E rere ruka,                        Fly up,
E rere raro,                         Fly down,

E rere roto,                         Fly in,
E rere waho.                       Fly out.
E rere taku poi,                  Fly my poi,
E rere taku poi                    Fly my poi

Ki ruka, ki ruka.              Upwards, upwards

A Ha Ka Ma...

We have been learning this Māori alphabet song as a warm up to our Kapa Haka sessions - to get our mouths ready for some beautiful singing!

The red parts show our caller's lines, and the black part shows what everyone sings together.

A ha ka ma

A ha ka ma na pa ra ta wa nga wha

E he ke me
E he ke me ne pe re te we nge whe

I hi ki mi
